Sith Happens

My review of the third (sixth) installment in the Star Wars Saga

The following may contain spoilers, so if you didn't see the movie yet you may not want to read it....

Star Wars Episode III:  Revenge of the Sith

I could tell by the previews that I was going to like this.  Honestly, I didn't much care for Episode I.  I took it for what it was - a background story.  Episode II was a lot better because there was a lot more action, and far less Jar Jar.  And Episode III was down right dark.  The Empire Strikes Back was also very dark.

Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job as Obi Wan Kenobi.  After he defeated Anakin on the lava planet, I got choked up by his emotion.  You could feel his pain when he shouted out "You were like a brother to me Anakin!  I loved you!".

And when Anakin entered the Jedi temple to slaughter the younglings (young jedi learners.. kids not much more than 6 or 8 years old, it really brought a sick feeling to my stomach.  That must be the dad in me.

I tied up a lot of loose ends between the trilogies and really explained a lot.  I plan to see it again with my wife.

Re: Sith Happens
I should also say that the movie wasn't perfect and didn't tie up EVERYTHING.

The romantic banter between Anakin and Amidala was pretty bad. You can't expect Lucas to write romantic banter =) He should've gotten McGregor's advice - Ewan has been in a number of romantic comedies, hasn't he? :)

In the original Star Wars, Kenobi doesn't seem to recognize C3P0 and R2D2. Given that R2D2 was heavily involved in the "Rescue" of chancellor Palpatine, that seems to be a bit of a flaw. Perhaps "old Ben" had Alzheimers.

I was a little shocked at how quickly Anakin become totally evil after pledging himself to Palpatine. He did so out of his love for Padme, and yet he immediately goes out and slaughters the children in the Jedi temple. IT seemed a bit of a stretch to me.

But this is a fantasy, after all. No movie is perfect!

Re: Sith Happens
Allegedly, Lucas has already announced plans to re-release all six movies in 3D, and is going to do a live action TV series.
