Do you like my Blog?

Blatant self-promotion

Well, my blog is almost complete.  You see, I wrote 95% of this blog tool, and personally I think it's a pretty kickass blog app.

If any of my family reads this, they're probably wondering what the hell a Blog is.  My wife had to ask me that a few months ago.  She's so out of date.

For the uninitiated, a blog is a web log.  An online journal.  A diary.  A platform for speaking one's mind, even if nobody is listening.  (Yes, for all I know, nobody is reading this!)

Anyway, the application is called BlogCFM.  It is written in CFML (aka Coldfusion) and works on Coldfusion server and Bluedragon server.  I know that means nothing to 90% of you.  But if it means something to you, ou can find out more about it here.

Re: Do you like my Blog?
Yes it is a "kickass" app.
Congrats.

Rick, need help with this please:
Working with a MSAccess db. When I try to save a "content" larger than 519 characters I get the cferror

Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation.

The error occurred in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\blogcfm\cfcs\blogcfm.cfc: line 898
which is the "INSERT INTO BLOG_ENTRIES" query.

The value being saved is:

which should be ok for a "memo" field.

Could you please advise?

ThankYou Rick

Re: Do you like my Blog?
Very nice blog tool. I am an IT Manager at a TV and radio station and we're running CF6.1 currently on our web server. A staff person has asked for blogging capabilities to complement his on-air work.
My assumption is we can use this program and modify the code as needed? I would prefer not to mess with your code but I do have a few questions: Is there anyway to completely disable commenting on a system wide scale, instead of by entry? And we really want (at this point) for the blog to be a one way thing. No comments, no logins, no registering. Without completely modifying your code, is there an easy way to do this? Thanks for your help.

Re: Do you like my Blog?
Cheech,

You'd have to modify the code, but it'd be pretty easy. Just comment out lines 151-158 and 256-335 in entry.cfm ...

You'd probably also want to comment out the "Comments" link on line 87 the index.cfm page.

Optionally, if you still wanted the blog owner to be able to post comments, you'd want to simply remove the following from line 256 of entry.cfm:

getEntry.entryInfo.FLAG_ALLOW_COMMENTS is 1 OR

That way, only blog admins will be able to comment.

Re: Do you like my Blog?
Hi Rick,

I like the blog too. I think it's great. I do have some issues with subscribing to comments. Some people getting notifications for the first time, but then stop getting them even though they are still subscribing to the comments. Where should I look to fix this problem.
