Moving ... maybe

Sometimes, you do things just because an opportunity presents itself.

While Adrienne and I were talking pretty seriously about moving next summer, it appears that one of her friends is interested in buying our house.  Our realtor would probably charge us in the neighborhood of 5.5% to list, so if we sell for $180,000, that would cost us nearly $10k.  The idea of not paying a realtor's fee is quite pleasant, and if Adrienne's friend sells her house and wants to buy ours - we're outta here!

But where are we gonna go?

Well, with Adrienne working in Sanford for the foreseeable future, and with myself working in Durham for the rest of my life probably, Apex is a really good location.  For those of you not familiar with the area, Durham and Sanford are a long ways apart.  We drive in completely opposite directions.  The nice thing about Apex is that we're both about 35 minutes from work, and there are ZERO traffic problems for either of us.

Why do we want to move in the first place?

Mostly, because we really want our square footage laid out differently.  A little more space would be nice, but we've got 250 square feet wrapped up in our bonus room that we basically only use for a guest bedroom.  We could take the extra 150 feet that we're not using, spread it around the other rooms, and be perfectly happy with our 1800 square feet.  Plus, now that we're not first time home buyers, there are certain things we want that we didn't know we wanted.  Like drawers in the master bathroom vanity.  Walk-in closet attached to the master bathroom.  A larger second bedroom for Emily.  42" cabinets, and nicer countertops.  A utility room instead of a laundry closet.

5.5% realtor's fees? Don't kick too bad - down in Phoenix, the fees are generally 7% - and the prices of houses are going through the roof. (It may sound nice, but the downside is that if you want to move to a different part of the valley, nothing is cheap - and you'd better be first in line to make an offer.) BTW - nice blog.

Re: Moving ... maybe
Well, my realtor offered to lower his fees for "repeat business". But yes, they're normally around 7% here too.

Hi Rick,I did check out your site for the "I Like You" thing and then decided to check the site. GOOD FOR YOU FOR TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT! I Really hope for you to accede!! My husband had his gall bladder taken out 2 months ago due to his eating habits and lost 15 pounds because after surgery everything made him sick. Now he is better and has gained the weight back. About your house, ever think of selling it yourself? People do that all of the time and save alot of money. Good luck to you on both things and God Bless, Gail.
